Hi, I’m Mara!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where my passion for food began at a young age. Every Sunday my big family would come together for long dinners. Before we gathered, the whole family would spend the day cooking– making pasta, barbeques, empanadas, and delicious desserts.  Being together from morning to night was typical; these were our rituals. My favorite tradition was what we call a merienda, which is kind of like an afternoon tea. We would drink mate accompanied with traditional treats like alfajores and talk for hours. The house was never empty as friends and family would always stop by for un bocadito, a not-too-small snack.

I moved to California as I knew it would be different but similar to my hometown. With diversity, beautiful landscapes, and a love for food I felt I could fit right in. I still like to keep up with my traditions and share them with my Californian friends. Spending time with my kind, loving, and sometimes crazy family is one of my favorite pastimes. I have four children Melisa, Leandro, Cecilia, and Leticia each who love to remind me to take a break and relax. But I never like to sit still, and I never like to be bored.

A few hobbies of mine include cooking, baking, oh, and definitely eating. I never miss an opportunity to have my friends and family over for dinner, even if they are my greatest critics. In the kitchen I love using organic ingredients, as It reminds me of the food, I grew up with– no preservatives and no genetic modifications. I love meeting new people and traveling to places that I’ve never been to before. My pets mean the world to me, and I will never miss an opportunity to snap a quick picture of my dog, Luna. Through the years I have taken up painting, and gardening and never miss an opportunity to stay busy.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.

Un Beso,

Mara
